Literature Text

Tears are not a sign of weakness
tears don't mean that you aren't strong
tears are pain that hid inside you
tears mean you held on for far too long

Crying doesn't mean you've given up
it doesn't mean that you are done
it does not mean that you are broken
so babe just let your sweet tears run

Each tear contains a piece of you
damaged, broken, beaten down
tears are pain you push away
tears are sadness washing out

So don't be afraid to let them run
don't hold in your glistening tears
let them pull out the damage
that you collected all your years
Too many people have told me that tears/crying are a sign of weakness... I say they're all wrong.
I have a lot of friends who all seem to be hurting right now, this is for them

This reminds me of a book I read recently, titled "Tuesdays with Morrie." Morrie was a terminally-ill former college professor who had a different perspective on life than most other people. He scorned materialism, and taught his student to let his emotions flow freely, instead of holding them in. Once he realized that he was feeling a certain emotion, he could push it away, and feel much better about himself afterwards. This included crying, which Morrie finally was able to make his student do so before Morrie's death. That book taught me a lot of lessons.
